Can I manipulate the result of my drug test?

It’s a question we get asked quite a lot – is it possible to manipulate the result of a drug test?

The Australian Drug Foundation is a great resource for questions like these. We’re sure they’ve heard all the rumours and myths about how to beat a drug test, such as taking substances like aspirin, niacin, bleach, vinegar, cranberry juice, goldenseal, to name a few, to mask or disguise drug use.

So what’s the Australian Drug Foundation’s response? There is no reliable evidence to show that taking any of the substances listed above will help you beat a drug test and in fact some may cause significant harm. In fact, there’s no evidence of any reliable way of manipulating a drug test.

If you’re a drug user and need to drive, go to work or do anything else where a drug test may be required, the only thing that will allow you to pass a drug test is time. Time for the drug or drugs to metabolize in your body. How much time? This depends on a number of factors, such as the type and amount of drugs taken, as well as individual factors.

In short, it’s difficult to predict how much time it will take, so don’t take the risk.
