Workplace drug and alcohol testing vital

Research, community concerns and media commentary should be sending a clear message to Australian workplace owners and managers – testing of workers for drugs and alcohol is now more important than ever.

In recent months:

  • Media commentary on the effects of drugs in the community, in particular the drug ICE, has increased.
  • A survey found that 9% of workers admitted to drinking alcohol at work
  • The same survey found that 2% of workers confessed to attending work affected by drugs.

Testing of workers for drugs and alcohol, as part of a comprehensive drug and alcohol management program, should be on every workplace agenda.
