We’re a pretty happy and carefree lot on the Gold Coast, but don’t let that fool you if you intend to drink and then drive, go to work or operate a boat. Gold Coast alcohol testing will catch you wherever you are. It’s just a matter of time.
Alcohol testing on Gold Coast roads
Most of us drive and do so on auto pilot, so it’s easy to forget that driving is quite complicated. It’s not just operating the vehicle, it’s also watching others around you, modifying our driving for weather and traffic conditions and so much more. Driving takes concentration, coordination, reflexes and the ability to make correct judgements and decisions.
Is it any wonder then that alcohol can effect our driving ability. Which is why Queensland police, including police on the Gold Coast, conduct alcohol testing. You can be pulled over by Gold Coast police anytime, anywhere for alcohol testing, so whether you’ve got a long way to travel or a short distance, never take the risk and drink and drive. Have a designated driver, take public transport or call a taxi or ride-share.
Alcohol testing on Gold Coast waterways
Just like driving, drinking alcohol and then operating a boat effects the safety of you, your passengers and other water users. Which is why alcohol testing is also conducted on Gold Coast’s waterways.
If you operate a Class 1 commercial vessel (13 or more passengers) you must have a blood alcohol level of zero. If you operate any other vessel the legal limit is 0.05, although Maritime Safety Queensland recommends a zero limit for all commercial vessel skippers.
Think you can set anchor to enjoy a few beers and let the alcohol wear off before setting away? Think again. The blood alcohol limits apply even when you are at anchor, so if you are asked to conduct alcohol testing you could get caught. Only skippers of boats that are moored to a marina, jetty or wharf, or on a swing mooring, are exempt.
Alcohol testing in Gold Coast workplaces
Just like on the roads and the waterways, it’s simply not safe to drink and then go to work. Which is why many Gold Coast workplaces where safety is a priority use alcohol testing to detect people who take risks.
It’s not about discipline or catching people out, it’s about safety. This is particularly the case in workplaces where tasks such as driving, operating machinery and performing manual roles occur.
Integrity Sampling is one of the providers that help Gold Coast workplaces with alcohol testing. We have a technician on the Gold Coast who can provide a full workplace alcohol testing service, in addition to workplace drug testing services.
